What if Mahavatar Babajee is a myth?

Shishir Kumar

I know this is going to be a shattering and devastating thought, but what if there is no one 2000/500 years old and he is just an imagination? I know he sits on the altar, on the table you do psychic reading or the painting in your hall, but, I just have my doubts.

Where did I come to know about Babajee? Of course from the book called “Autobiography of a Yogi” by Swami Yogananda. I believed and followed the path. I went on to learn the Kriya Yoga. I learnt a lot of meditation techniques that took a lot many years of my life and for which I am thankful.

But when it came to the great gurus I am ‘Now Skeptical’!

Yes, I know the importance of guru. The Sanatan dharma has always emphasised on the importance of guru to an extent where they say first bow before guru and then God.

I learned from Yogada Satsang a term called spiritual indigestion that when elaborated meant your incapability to distinguish between right and the wrong spiritual teaching. Another says - when you think of something too much you start manifesting, lets keep this aside and keep our stuffs simple.

Mahavatar Babajee was first seen and claimed by Lahiri Mahashaya. Then by a lot of highly spiritual enhanced beings, as per their own claims. Lahari Mahashaya in one of his talks said - he is Krishna, and followed another that said I am him, quite an appraisal.

His direct disciple Yuketswar Giri, writer of The Holy science, also claimed that he met Mahavatar who resembled Lahiri Mahasaya. Latter a lots of sheeps claimed about the resemblance. But when you try matching the photos of the two, both are different one has a cheek bone while the other is pulpy, the prior has a half close eyes while the latter is almost invisible.

Coming back to the claims of Lahiri Mahasaya of being Mahavatar which is directly proportional of being Krishna. Sri M another witness writes in his book that Mahavtar became Shiva in front of him. No sir I am not buying the theory of united ‘power’ corporation at this point.

Further, when Yogananda writes about him, he talks about Krishna and Christ. Yes, Krishna from another Yuga, we don’t have any proves of our existence prior to 2200 years, and Christ who was first mentioned somewhere 300 after his claimed last walk on earth.

India has always been a land of spirituality, realisation and miracles. But here is one person now incharge of Himalayas. All the great Gurus have one common master Mahavtar Babajee. You walk to Himalayas and you know the truth and then end up selling your Ferrari.

There are a lot of stories of Great Gurus and the great knowledge and superhuman powers they possessed BUT they all were humans and not in hiding.

The way Kriya Yoga is practised is also strange you need to have a altar like a witch and have photos of everyone from Krishna, Christ, Mahaavtar followed by your linage. On earth how did they managed so many photos before printing press reached Himalayas. Have you seen the marriage ceremony of the Kriya Yogis performed by Swami Yoganada as directed by Gurus, youtube, you will die laughing.

I do not doubt the existence of great Gurus in India. We had Devraha Baba whose age is said to be more than a couple of centuries, I met a nath Yogi in Mount Abu who is 140 years and still as fit as I, I met another at my hometown Ranchi who is 116 years old. We have Kashmiri Baba in Junagarh - people claims his age is more than 150 years.  So we have example but all have proofs that we can see.

The Nath yogis of India have a concept - the body is meant to perish. Stories make us feel better and a supporting shoulder is miracle. But Spiritual journey is all about practising and realising.

Lets not believe in Rajnikant’s Guru like his movies, Explore!

My Ghost Story - 3

- Shishir Kumar And the later part night went discussing that what we just saw was what the Bengali legends call Dakini or this is the entity that is known as Chudail. Still not clear, but we had definitely seen something very disturbing. It was a challenge I had taken up. A tantric in his mid 40s had asked me to accompany him to the funeral ground where he would evoke the spirits and I would be able to see them. The condition was I should not run away. I? Run Away? Are you serious? He had asked me to come by 11 at night. But out of anxiety and pure happiness, I bought a bottle of 100 pipers and rushed to his house exact at 9. As I barged into his hut, he sat on a mat that looked like a cheap replica of tiger skin. That was the only cloth around him. Further, he was covered with beads and rosary. That was what I could see prima facie. His hut had an entry from right, he sat in the middle of opposite wall and visitors could sit leaning the left wall of the house. As my e

Aghora, as I have understood - I

- Shishir Kumar Not even in vicinity of reality! No, not aghora but our understanding of it. What thoughts come in your mind when you hear the word Aghora? Cannibals? Sex with Corpse? Fierce? None of the above is correct and this I can say after a deep plunge into the world of Aghoris. I say this as I did not make an attempt to research like a journalist for a piece of writing or a documentary but I understood it being one of them.  Aghor is a Sadhna that is done by those who dwell in the funeral ground and those who lead a normal life.  It originated from Lord Dattaterya who gave it to his disciple Lord Shiva and later in time was practised by one the the Navnaths his holiness Kanifnath.  Aghor has three divisions. Those in west India follow Dattaterya and Girinar Mountain Range is there abode. They have a firm faith in Mahakaal.  Then comes those who dwell in East India, an area influenced by Kamakhya and Kali. Those in Central India are known to h
